In 2023, after installing solar panels, we decided to ditch our gas furnace and transition to heat pumps for heating and cooling to finish our home’s transition to all-electric. Tony was very knowledgeable and did a fantastic job, including making sure we had heat pumps that could handle the winter …
Highly recommended- I had a complex project and Stable Air was the only team who provided a solution, and was reasonably priced. I had an oil furnace and some duct work running through my 200 year old farm house, and no a/c. I wanted to convert to solar power and have mini splits to have clean …
Stable Air exceeded my expectations in nearly every way. The owner was extremely well communicative not only while price shopping, but once we had confirmed and begun the work. The work itself was professional and top of the line in quality and performance. They gave us an upgraded unit for the …
Back in 2022, Stable Air completed a full overhaul of our HVAC system, removing our old, extremely inefficient fuel oil furnace and base board heating and replacing it with a brand-new ducted heat pump system with all-new ductwork. They also upgrade our homes insulation by sealing and insulating …
We can't recommend Stable Air Heating & Cooling enough! As first-time homebuyers, we unfortunately learned the hard way that we had been taken advantage of when purchasing our home. The house had vents throughout for central AC, and there was clear evidence that a unit had previously been …
I have been using Stable Air Heating & Cooling since 2022. I originally contacted them to replace my aging furnace. Not only did they give me a great price, the work they did made a world of difference. I had ticking noises in the ductwork prior, the owner took time to redo some of the ductwork …
Stable Air did an excellent job installing a mini split for me. The mini split heats and cools my entire condo. My electric bill has been significantly reduced. I’m on the budget plan and National Grid just notified me they are reducing my monthly bill by $40. The mini split is much more quiet than …
The owner of Stable Air was nothing short of fantastic. Very knowledgeable and helped several issues we were having with our Fujitsu heat pump. Would whole heartedly recommend them!
We picked Stable Air to install a minisplit system in our 1950's cape-style kit house home because when we met with him it was clear he cared deeply about the quality of his work and understands the importance of doing a job right the first time. Stable Air's quote was competitive and included …

Why heat pump installation makes sense in Saratoga County
With a heat pump, one system does the job of a furnace and an air conditioner. In summer it pulls heat out of the house like any AC, and in winter it runs in reverse, pulling heat from outdoor air, even cold air, and moving it inside. Since it moves heat instead of burning fuel to make it, it can put out more heat than the electricity it uses.
Heat pumps come ducted or ductless in Saratoga County homes, and plenty use both. A ducted one ties into the supply and return ducts you already have, which suits a house with forced air, while ductless means mini split heads on the walls. Gerrad Bohl's 200 year old farmhouse ended up with a whole home heat pump on the ducts plus a mini split, with backup electric heat coils.
More about heat pumps and solar
Solar and heat pumps go together well. Gerrad Bohl and Ryan Bochacki both paired solar with a move to heat pumps. If panels are already on the roof or in your plans, mention it at the first visit so the heat pump gets sized with that in mind.

Signs your Saratoga County home is ready for a heat pump
Some homes are easy calls. Examples are an oil furnace near the end of its life, a gas furnace and an old AC that will both need replacing within a few years, a house with ducts but no working central air, or solar on the roof and a fuel bill you'd like to stop paying. Rooms that run too hot in summer and too cold in winter, wherever the thermostat sits, point the same way.
When a furnace quits in January, most people put in whatever can go in quickest and live with it for years. Planning while the old system still runs leaves time to size it right, sort out the ductwork, ask about rebates and pick equipment built for our winters.
More about when to wait
We'll also tell you when a heat pump isn't the right move yet for your Saratoga County home. If your current system has good years left, we say so and keep it running until you're ready. Jordan Gerber, who has used us for his furnace and central AC, put it simply: if we can fix it, we will.
How heat pump installation in Saratoga County works
The installation of a heat pump usually involves ductwork, and sometimes the water heater, along with the equipment itself. The person who plans it is the person who installs it.

Heat pumps sized for Saratoga County winters
A heat pump here has to be picked for winter first. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for Albany Airport show about 6,357 heating degree days a year against 721 cooling degree days, with an average January low of 15.9°F and 59.2 inches of snow.
That means a cold-climate model that holds its output as the temperature drops, sized to the house rather than the old furnace's label, with a plan for the coldest nights. Gerrad Bohl's system has backup coils for that, and he wrote: "The heat coils are only a backup measure if the heat pump struggles in severe subzero temperature to produce enough heat, then the back up heat coils kick in to help, which has only happened once when it was -10."
More about outdoor unit placement
Where the outdoor unit goes matters too. It should sit up off the ground, clear of roof runoff and drifting snow, with somewhere for defrost water to drain so it doesn't freeze into a sheet of ice underneath. Ryan Bochacki wrote that we made sure they "had heat pumps that could handle the winter temperatures in Albany".

What goes into a heat pump installation price in Saratoga County
A heat pump installation price in Saratoga County depends on the house more than the equipment. How big the home is and how well it holds heat decide how much system you need. Then come the ducts: some get reused as they are, some need sealing or changes, and some houses need new runs, because heat pumps tend to move more air at lower temperatures than a furnace does.
Heather Wooten-Gonzalez's house had vents for central AC, but "upon further inspection, the existing vent system had been poorly designed and installed." Ryan Bochacki's needed custom fabricated ductwork to run multiple zones. Going fully all-electric, keeping the old furnace or boiler as backup, adding backup heat coils and replacing the water heater at the same time are all different jobs. You see each one priced before you pick.

More about real heat pump jobs
Heather Wooten-Gonzalez and Andre Gonzalez both got a heat pump water heater as part of their jobs. If yours is getting old, it's worth pricing both together. See our water heater services.
Ryan Bochacki's family had already put in solar. Ryan wrote: "In 2023, after installing solar panels, we decided to ditch our gas furnace and transition to heat pumps for heating and cooling to finish our home’s transition to all-electric." The house had existing ductwork and needed more than one zone, so the job was more than swapping equipment.
We sized heat pumps for Albany winters and built "custom fabricated ductwork that was needed to integrate the system into our existing ductwork and accommodate multiple zones". Later, when one of the blower motors had an issue, we ordered the parts and worked around their schedule to fix it. Ryan wrote that he would recommend us to anyone "looking to transition to heat pumps".
Andre Gonzalez had a similar job, a heat pump AC and heating system with ductwork plus a heat pump water heater. Andre wrote that during the install we were "often catching things other companies missed or didn't mention to us."
