What moves the cost of a mini split
The number of indoor heads comes first. An open floor plan can often share one head, while closed-off bedrooms usually need their own. Our jobs have run from one head in a living room to five across an addition and two floors, and those are very different jobs.
Next is the work between the heads and the outdoor unit: how far apart they are, where the lines can run and what it takes to get power to the system. A short run on an outside wall is simpler than one that has to cross the house.
Equipment, heating and what you keep
A system that has to carry your heat through a January night here needs a cold-climate model sized for that job. NOAA's normals for Albany Airport put the average January low at 15.9°F. Some homes keep a backup for the coldest nights, and keeping an existing furnace or boiler changes what the mini split has to do.
